Not every “sliding glass door” is the same door. Here is the plain version.
- Sliding glass doors. The standard two or three panel slider. One or more panels glide past a fixed panel on a track. The workhorse of most Florida patios.
- Corner sliding doors. Two runs of glass meet at a 90-degree corner. When the doors open, the corner disappears and two walls of your home open to the outside at once. Some configurations remove the corner post entirely.
- Stacking sliding doors. Panels slide and stack in front of one another to one side, so more of the opening clears than a standard slider.
- Multi-slide doors. Large panels glide along a track and stack or pocket to one side, for a wide opening with slim sightlines and fewer frames in the view.

- Impact rating and your address. Most of the Sarasota area sits in the wind-borne-debris region, where replacement glazing is designed to be impact-rated or shutter-protected. Impact-rated sliding doors are tested to take a hit and stay in the opening. We confirm what your specific address calls for before we order.
- Glass and solar load. On a west-facing wall of glass, the number that matters most in Florida is SHGC, how much solar heat comes through the glass, not just U-factor. Laminated impact glass helps with both the storm side and the heat side, which is why it does double duty on big sliders.
- Frame material. Aluminum handles the largest sizes and highest design pressures. Vinyl and other framing hold up well against salt air and west-facing exposures. The right call depends on the opening and how close you are to the water.
- The opening itself. Older Sarasota homes rarely have a catalog-size opening. We measure the rough opening before anything gets ordered, because a slider that’s a half inch off is a slider that fights you for years.
